Our Judgment
A wise man builds a lasting legacy. A foolish man builds a roller coaster and charges admission.
Planet Coaster is one of the best theme-park builders around, and it succeeds because it understands that building the park is the real game. The construction tools give you tremendous freedom, from designing elaborate roller coasters to creating detailed scenery and entire themed areas. There is always another corner of the park that can be improved.
The management systems give that creativity some purpose. Guests have needs and opinions, staff need to be managed, rides require maintenance, and the park still needs to make money. It isn't the deepest management simulator, but there is enough here to make your creative decisions matter.
Where Planet Coaster really shines is in the freedom it gives the player. You can build something functional in minutes or spend hours creating a park that looks like you planned every brick. Watching guests actually use what you've created makes the effort worthwhile.
There are limitations. The management side eventually feels less demanding than the building, and larger parks can become cumbersome to manage. Some systems could have used more depth, particularly for players looking for a serious business simulation.
But Planet Coaster knows what it wants to be. It is a playground for building ridiculous rides, beautiful parks, and occasionally terrible decisions involving roller-coaster safety. Few games make creativity this much fun.
