Our Judgment
A wise warrior seeks elegance. A foolish warrior puts on a sombrero and starts throwing poison farts. Somehow I enjoyed both.
Alright. I sat down with a cup of sake and this game called Mexican Ninja, fully expecting it to be a dumb joke that overstayed its welcome.
And look… it kind of is a dumb joke. But it’s a dumb joke that actually feels good to play.

The combat is the part that surprised me. The combos have some real weight to them, the movement feels tight, and once you start stringing attacks together and throwing out those ridiculous specials, it gets weirdly satisfying. There’s a proper arcade rhythm underneath all the loud nonsense. For a while, I was just having a good time smashing through groups of enemies in Nuevo Tokyo without thinking too hard about it.
Does the humor miss as often as it hits? Yeah.
Does the game lean on its own gimmick a little too much? Also yeah.
Is there less variety than you’d hope for after a few runs? For sure.

But I still kept going back for “one more run” more times than I expected. It’s not deep, and it’s not trying to be. It’s just a chaotic little beat-’em-up that knows what it is and mostly delivers on it.
I came in ready to roll my eyes.
I left mildly impressed and slightly more drunk.
Sometimes that’s enough.
