Our Judgment

Even an old Sensei can learn.

They have brought me to a school of witchcraft.

I have spent my life studying discipline, the blade, and the ways of the warrior. Now a young wizard has handed me a wand and told me to attend class. I have never held such a weapon. I am told it can turn a man into a chicken.

I begin to see the appeal.

Hogwarts Legacy understands the simple pleasure of being somewhere you have wanted to visit for years. Hogwarts itself is magnificent. Corridors hide passages, classrooms give way to secrets, and every staircase seems to lead somewhere I have not yet explored. Outside the castle, the world continues with villages, ruins, forbidden forests, beasts, and plenty of trouble waiting for an unfortunate student to wander into it.

The magic is not merely decoration. Spells become the heart of combat, and learning how they work together gives the battles surprising depth. Levioso can lift an enemy, Accio can pull another toward me, and a well-timed spell combination can turn a crowded fight into something resembling a martial art. I have always believed a warrior should understand his weapon. Apparently, this applies to wands as well.

But even a beautiful school can have boring lessons. Hogwarts Legacy eventually reveals the weakness beneath its wonderful world: there is simply too much of it. Camps, Merlin Trials, treasure rooms, bandit encounters, and countless other activities begin to repeat themselves. The story has its moments, but the characters and quests rarely carry the same weight as the world surrounding them. I often found myself exploring because I wanted to see what was around the next corner, not because the game had given me a compelling reason to go there.

Still, I forgive much when a game makes me feel like I have stepped into another world. Walking through Hogwarts at night, learning a new spell, discovering a hidden room, or simply wandering the grounds has a charm that cannot be measured by a checklist. The game understands the fantasy it was given, and for the most part, it treats it with respect.

I came here expecting to teach.

Instead, I learned something.

Even an old Sensei can still be impressed.
